Lots of "roadkill" on the way up to Mindenhammer on Friday. Clear vision with sunny skies but there was just a bit of a wind blowing (75kph) and drfting packed sections on the road. Apparently these people could have benefited from a bit of ice racing experience.

Didn't have much to do Friday to the cars but made up for it socializing in the Cliffe. The guy who took this aerial photo of the track has a 3 piece rock band that had a gig at the Dominion Hotel Saturday nite. The gig was great according to Doug Liddell SAC#28 and Sonia Wallis SAC#140 who were up for the weekend as volunteer marshals and staying at the Dominion. Well done guys! Sonia won a trophy "Best Slippery Slide done by a Female" courtesy of BARC. Click 4 large

The SAC flag was returned to Mindenhammer this weekend after an extended stay in California with Dave Watson SAC#10 (hope you washed it Dave). Dave flew into Pearson Friday? where he was picked up by the MPU (Mobile Porn Unit) of Mike Jensen SAC#3 and Torsen (Torsen, why aren't you a SAC member?).

Oh yeah, almost forgot... Terry Dalton got out of his car on the mock grid (probably to wave to his fans) where he was gridded in first position Saturday and took his keys out of the ignition. When it was time to go he belted in, helmet on but no keys? Where were they? He frantically looked everywhere, the grid was called out onto the track and still no keys. I drove as slow as I dared on the formation lap to give him time. We are all grided up ready to go when out he comes and is grided dead last . He had found the keys stuck to the side of his seat. Terry went from last to win that race! Well done lad.

Track Conditions/ Weather:

Saturday:
Click 4 largeTrack was much narrowed due to attempt to move the stud car line furthur out. Shown is a picture of the eastern-most corner. This made for a fairly tight racing line as one did not dare to step beyond the line for fear of hitting the "weeds" where no cars run (very slippery, never-been-run-on ice with snow and ice granuals on top of it). The track remained very slippery all day, we have yet to experience a mild weekend although long range for this weekend coming looks milder.

Sunday:
Minus 28C this morning but up to -8C at noon and -12C by 4PM. Class 1 went out after three rubber to ice races so there was hardly any grip. Track was flooded over nite to fill in massive trough and bare patches from Sat. stud racing.
Both Sat and Sun sunny and mainly clear.

Racing:

Saturday:
Clockwise direction today. Drove the "new" 740 Ovlov racer all weekend. No cold starting problems (Yeah! ). Gridded 12th (about 6th place in my class 1) and finished 1st in the 10 lap qualifier. It seemed like I had the car sorted pretty well. Started 1st in the 1st class one race after a stud race and again, like almost every other time, did not get a good start. I was gridded on the inside where you are just off the studded line down the straight. Studded tire cars leave the track very rough and therefore lots of grip after they race. Terry Dalton and Larry Kovaks both passed me as they were grided on the outside on the stud line. I got back past Larry on the 1st lap and was 1/2 way through the second lap with Terry lined up in my sights for a pass when a red flag was shown. George Burnham's 4x4 wagon did an end over end as it clipped the bank at the end of the straight. I believe William Stubbs (SAC#123) was piloting the car. Since this was under 2 laps completed of a 15 lap race we were gridded again under original formation and would race the full 15 laps. But the hole left by Burnham's car in the grid meant that cars gridded after him shifted up one position. I now found myself gridded on the outside right on the stud line and Terry now on the inside! :-) Awesome start right off the green and by the 4th lap I could see neither Terry nor Larry in my rearview at the end of the straight and continued on to finish 1st.

Second race Sat saw me get a lousy start again and have to claw my way up for a 2nd place finish in class one.

In class 11 after stud start on sat. I was pushed out into the weeds while going around the pack on the outside into the first turn (doin pretty good too) but Terry got shoved and turned out in front of me I decided to abort and headed into the weeds. I just sat there for a couple of seconds thinking this is an insane way to race and let the whole field go by. Then I got mad, tucked in behind Tom Prentice and proceeded to cut and slash my way to a 2nd place finish right on Terry Dalton's back bumper! Sometimes a little bit of motivation is a good thing.

Sunday:
Very cold AM very sunny, cars started fine. Started 2nd in class 1 and finished 3rd (bad start again) then had the best race maybe ever in the very last race of the day in class one with Terry Dalton (See "Highlites" below for details)

BARC did a great job this weekend Thank you to all!!!

Highlites:

Getting whiplash in a race Saturday as some cowboy who didn't like getting passed up the inside of turn 3 rearended me (twice) so hard that my rearview mirror tilted to the nightvision setting. I probably should have seen Dr. John about it my neck but by Sunday morning the tightened neck muscles had subsided to a dull ache.

Last race Sunday after 3 front wheel drive races had polished the ice to a sheen and I again got behind Larry and Terry on the start. Got back Larry and closed right up on Terry, rattling his cage enough to get him a little wide on last corner before straight and I get by down the straight but not without a lot of paint being traded (I was just too estatic not to want to rub him up a bit!). Can't remember all of what happened next but do remember we traded places a couple of times ? with him drag racing me on the outside down the straight and me winding up bein pushed into the weeds. I did recover and finished 2nd. But now I know - I can race with the champ!!! Best most exciting race probably to date (except maybe once last year with Larry).

These guys have run more races metal side down than stud side that I changed their decal (Eurospeed.ca) so it would read properly in their preferred orientation.

There is a great video of some SAC members getting together to help one of our own out with some under car chop-sawing but Gianni Biral has the video and I got to get it! We lifted the car up onto it's side and held it there while I got under tyhe car and cut off the tail end of the exhaust manifold down pipe on Lee Waterworth's (SAC#200) Honda Civic racer.

Stay tooned and i will let u know when I get it posted. It's a riot to watch!!!
