A very cold weekend with high windchill factors and lots of fresh snow. It appears this is becoming the norm for the DAC weekend. Thanks to all DAC members and organizers for freezing your various body parts on our behalf.
I'll get my rant
out of the way first ... Had a great weekend all round otherwise despite the windchill. My wife Judy accompanied me but stayed in the truck for most of the weekend as even her fur coat would not keep out the cold. I spent a couple hours Friday afternoon at the pits swapping out the front left brake caliper, all is now well with the 740 rubber-to-ice car but I can't say the same for the ends of my fingers. Heavy crust of ice (1" thick) over about 4 inches of wet slushy stuff had to be removed from everything: cars, trailer, pit spots as well. Received 4-5 inches fresh powder Friday nite so had to deal with that again Sat. am as well. I think the starter on the 740 has too much dampness in it as it freezes overnite after a race day and requires bump starting - thanks to my friend Rick Creuzburg for helping out all weekend. BTW: Saturday nite at the Rockcliffe Rick Creuzburg signed a gig contract to perform with his Band "Trickster" on the May 24th weekend this spring so if you are not doing anything else that weekend or will be in the area drop in to the Rockcliffe Tavern to catch this excellent rock and roll flashback band! The 242 was really tough to start Saturday first time and once it fired only ran on one then 2 then 3 then finally all four cylinders. Probably need a new distributor cap as that is all that's left to replace in ignition even though it looks brand new. Had some good fun in the street stud races with Steffan Haas in his front wheel drive Rabbit. e were both well out front in one race so started risking things by driving like a pair of asses back and forth in the rearview mirror, excessive pendulum swing fishtails, tailgating, bumping, etc etc, at one point Steff slowed down and let me pass him then I made it as tough as possible for him to repass, blocking him everywhere and making the Ovlov as wide as possible...lots of fun! There was some driveshaft damage repair done at the Drysdale pit next door on Sunday and as I have officially dropped out of the class 11 events as of this weekend I seemed to have more time to socialize and grabbed this short video footage. Note the use of the appropriate S/\Ctioned precision tools... Saturday nite
at the Cliffe and all was well until "somebody" poolsurfed over the local
hockey team's pool game. Said hockey team representatives did not
understand this tradition and some pushing, shoving and heated words
were exchanged between hockey team and several SACmembers but all was
calmed after some more libation was spread around - I tried to do the
best Raul pour I could. As this was my
club's weekend to host the iceracing we had our annual DAC iceracer's
dinner which was held this year at the Highland Motel just 10 minutes
north of Minden on Hwy. #35. An excellent venue and special thanks to
Klaus Bartels for making it happen and going out of your way to track
down and purchase our dinnerware. Apparently the last people that rented
this venue broke all the proprietor's dishes so Klaus supplied for us.

Racing: Saturday: Once again the Brooklin Concrete, Swedish Motors, Minden house B&B sponsored 242 Ovlov in street studs was extremely successful and a total relaxing pleasure to drive. I will note that the extreme cold again served for poor grip levels and slower speeds bringing more rubber-to-ice type skills into play than rally type driving which would have happened under better grip conditions. Richard Walker, driving a RWD Chevette, was desparate to pass me for the lead up the inside in the first corner in the first race (I think it was Saturday) and has yet to autograph the resulting "artwork" all down the passenger side of the new 242 ! Sunday: Most fun was had wanking around on track with Steffan Haas in trhe Street Stud races. The Brooklin Concrete, Swedish Motors, Minden House B&B sponsored 740 Ovlov continued to improve in the Rubber-to-ice races and the new REVO1 Blizzaks (supplied by my sponsor Brooklin Concrete Products Inc.) were put on the back with good results moving me from 4th to 2nd place on what was really slippery and hard ice. I managed a to make a pass on Larry Kovaks stick. I had the company of ick Cruezburg in the passenger seat most of the weekend, thankyou Rick for your "Ballast Butt" :-) Track Conditions/ Weather: Saturday:
Sunday:
Results: My best results again were in Street Studs: 2nd , 2nd , 1st ,1st Class 1 results for rubber-to-ice: 5th, 4th, 4th, 2nd Pics:
