This year's RTI 1983 Ovlov

Good to be back in Minden after missing the first weekend, amazing difference between the appearance of the track today versus 2 weeks ago! Good job and a well done to all who made the track happen! A little disappointed tha I couldn't run the Toyota MR2 in Menards, the banks were not quite substantial enough yet. Decided to run the new street studs instead on the MR2 but also had tractionized last years brand new street stud tires for the new 1983 Ovlov with the potential for it to run in Ribber To Ice. They tractionized real nice and iunder testing in practice Saturday morning performed amazingly! The street stud qualifier saw me draw pole for the start but soon started falling backwards throug hthe field as I listened to the ting ting ting sound of studs flying out of the tires and hitting the fender wells and the occassional one bouncing off the windshield. After Quali I checked and my 13" tires had lost 50 of the 95 studs from the inside drive tire and a little less in the other with the majority of them coming out of the unloaded side of the tire. I had Rodney restud them for the 1st race Saturday however they all came out again. I didn't bother to restud for the 2nd race Saturday and did poorly.

Approximately 75% of the street stud tires lost some to all of their studs while there were some tires that did not loose studs at all.

I decided Sunday morning to retire from the Street Stud class and gop with something that seemed to be working well - rear wheel drive class 1 Rubber To Ice in the Ovlov.

Sunday I had a blast as the tractionized Hankooks from last season were amazing even on glare ice there was some grip. The Ovlov won both races Sunday with some competition from the second place BMW.

Weather on Saturday was cold, dry and overcast with temps around -15°C. Sunday morning was around -18°C and sunny warming to around -7°C in the mid afternoon and getting damp and overcast.
