UPDATE #21 09/07/2006

Hello Folks,

I can’t believe that it is September already and the kids are back to school!!  What with Allan’s surgery and home recovery, I think I missed most of it.  Oh well, there is always next year (lol).

Anyway we saw his surgeon last week and the news is good.  The doctor is very pleased with Allan’s recovery and says the chest and lungs sound really good.  The incisions have healed up very well, including the leg one I have been managing.  Two of the three open areas have finally closed and are managing without the butterfly strips (yeah).  The last one will be a few more weeks yet before we can kiss the strips good bye, but it is looking better with every passing day.  The leg where they took the vein still has some issues with respect to swelling, but the surgeon said this will take at least a year to resolve and then still may be an issue from time to time after that.  He advised me on ways to monitor this to hopefully keep it to a minimum.

Allan is walking much better and is doing 2 or 3 one hour walks per day (albeit with a wee bit of encouragement from yours truly).  He will be going to physiotherapy on Thursday for a bit of work on his right ankle, but other than that things are looking up.  If he keeps on the path he is on, the surgeon will let him go back to work on October 16th.

So, I think this will probably be my last email to you all, unless there are any major changes.

As always, many thanks for all your support and if you are in the neighbourhood be sure to drop in.

Take care all.

Al and Suzan
